THE EARLY YEARS: BUILDING A FOUNDATION
I began my career as a classroom teacher, and it was there that I first discovered something that has guided me throughout my life: people are capable of far more when they are given the right tools, encouragement and support.
In 1979, I founded Sylvan® Learning Centers with a simple goal of helping children become more successful learners. What began as an idea grew into one of the nation’s most recognized providers of supplemental education, ultimately helping millions of students achieve greater success.

In 1992, I took on a very different challenge when I acquired The Little Gym, a child development company with just two locations in the Pacific Northwest. I created The Little Gym® International, Inc. and developed the systems that helped it grow into an international franchise organization with hundreds of locations around the world. Both Sylvan and The Little Gym went on to be recognized by Entrepreneur magazine among its leading franchise companies.
But I wasn’t finished.
Founding Fowler International Academy of Professional Coaching
In 2008, I founded Fowler International Academy of Professional Coaching because I believed the principles I had spent decades developing in education, entrepreneurship, leadership and coaching could help people create meaningful change in their own lives and in the lives of others.
Creating the Fowler Method™
Drawing on decades of experience in education, entrepreneurship, leadership and professional coaching, I developed the Fowler Method™ as a practical, results-focused approach to coaching. I created it to teach coaches how to help their clients clarify their Dreams, turn those dreams into achievable Plans, take purposeful Actions and produce meaningful Results.
Since then, my team and I have trained more than 10,000 coaches in over 90 countries. Today, I continue to develop and refine our professional coaching curriculum, tools and training programs with one overriding objective: to prepare our graduates to become knowledgeable, confident and highly effective professional coaches.
Fowler School of Business and Executive Coaching
In 2012, I also created the Fowler School of Business and Executive Coaching to provide advanced training for experienced businesspeople, executives, managers and leaders who want to use their knowledge and experience to help others succeed.
Along the way, I wrote Return from Krypton: Rational Steps to Entrepreneurial Success, a book created specifically for small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs. I have also had the privilege of speaking to audiences throughout my career and appearing in publications including The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Newsweek, Success, USA Today and The New York Times, as well as television programs including the Today Show and World Business Review.
AND WE'RE STILL JUST GETTING STARTED
After more than four decades as an educator, entrepreneur, business developer and professional coach, what excites me most isn’t what I’ve already accomplished.
It’s what comes next.
I continue to believe deeply in the potential of people. And through FIA and the Fowler Method™, I have the opportunity to pass along what I have learned to coaches who can use it to make a meaningful difference in the lives of people around the world.
That’s a legacy I am incredibly proud to continue building.
